Genesis 42:1-38 Joseph's Brothers go to Egypt

Genesis 42:1-38 Joseph's Brothers go to Egypt

Jacob told his sons to go to Egypt to buy grain so that they might live and not die.  All of the brothers except for Benjamin went to Egypt.  Jacob did not sent Benjamin because he was afraid that something might happen to him.

Jacob was the one who was selling the grain.  His brothers came and bowed down to him.  Joseph recognized his brothers right away but his brothers did not know it was him.  Joseph acted to be a stranger and spoke roughly to his brothers.  Joseph declared that they were spies.  The brothers argued that they were not spies but were just there to buy food.  One of the brothers was to go back to get the youngest brother and bring him to Egypt.  The other brothers were to stay prisoners until they returned.  After 3 days in prison he let them take grain and go back and get their youngest brother. The brothers thought that this was punishment for what they did to Joseph.  Joseph had to turn away from his brother because he was weeping.  Simeon stayed in prison while the others went to get Benjamin.

Joseph told his men to fill their bags with grain and put their silver back in their bags and give them what they needed for their trip.  Then they were to start their trip back home.  The first night they stopped and opened their bags there they found their silver.  When they got home they told Jacob all that had happened. Jacob was very upset first Joseph was gone and now Simeon.  He did not want to send Benjamin.  Reuben told his father that he could put both of his sons to death if they did not bring back Benjamin.  Jacob still did not want to let Benjamin go.
